A Word of Encouragement I’ll Never Forget

on April 1, 2014

Can you remember a time when someone said they were proud of you?  Maybe a time when a friend told you they really appreciated you?  Was there a time when someone hand-wrote you a “thank you” note or sent you a text message saying how grateful they were for you?   Do you remember that phone call that someone made in order to say how…

Tiger Woods, Hank Haney, and Jesus

on March 25, 2014

pga_pgagallery_15I remember back in 2010 I heard a name that I had never heard before.  Hank Haney.  A normal sounding name.  Nothing too out of the ordinary.  He is a golf instructor.  That does sounds like an awesome job however it’s not his profession that has me writing about him this morning.  The reason the…

Pedicures, hard feet, and hard hearts

on March 18, 2014

I enjoy cleaning cars – I know, it’s a weird hobby.  But I really do like to get out in my driveway and detail a car for fun.  And for the longest time I use to do this barefooted.  On concrete.  One would think that this would hurt the bottom of my feet, however it never fazed me regardless of the rocks that were…

February Fast

February Fast

When people ask me how I’m doing, my usual response is, “Good, but busy.”  It’s almost like a reflex for me to describe my life as busy – and this is probably true for you too.  We are all busy.  We have jobs.  School.  Families.  Friends.  Responsibilities.  It all adds up quickly.  And while…

Christmas Eve Service

on December 20, 2013

It is hard to believe that Christmas is less than a week away.  And with that being true, I am getting more and more excited about our services that we have this weekend as we are going to look at the birth of Jesus and celebrate the fact that our God became man!  I would invite…

Keep Looking Forward

on December 16, 2013

I can remember walking into Three Rivers Stadium for the first time.  Being a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan and attending a game at the place where the Steelers had played football for 30 years was an incredible experience.  We went to a preseason Steelers game against the Buffalo Bills & the whole time I was there I couldn’t stop thinking about all of the…

I am excited about church tomorrow!

on December 14, 2013

Here are a few reasons why I am excited about church tomorrow:

  1. Because Jesus came to Earth – He isn’t far away!
  2. The tomb is empty and WE HAVE SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE!
  3. Jesus loves the church!
  4. Jesus promised to build His church!
  5. It’s not suppose to snow/ice/sleet/rain/or do any other weather event that Dave Brown can put us into a frenzy and keep us locked inside our houses for 72…

The Free Play

on December 9, 2013

For those of us who have watched more hours of football than we would care to admit we have seen what many commentators call the “free play”.  The free play for the offense is a play in which a member of the defense jumps offside as the ball is snapped.  The referee (of which, I would argue, Ed Hochuli…

Snow Day Anticipation

on December 5, 2013

Snow Day

As Memphis is eagerly awaiting the results of “ice-mageddon” I started thinking about all the times in my past when I would sit in front of the TV and earnestly anticipate the white stuff falling from the sky.  In fact, when I was in school I would hold off studying or doing homework that was due…
